Community Initiatives For Child Abuse Prevention Month In Broome County New York: Get Involved
Welcome to April! This month is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
In recognition, several Broome County’s professional agencies joined together to highlight local community efforts to strengthen families and reduce child abuse and neglect.
The Family Violence Prevention Council is celebrating 40 years of providing education, resources, and support to professionals and community members, advocating for policy changes, developing local protocols, and playing a key role in numerous statewide initiatives focused on protecting children, elders, and families.

According to the council, throughout April, several opportunities to engage the community in child abuse prevention efforts will occur.
Some of the initiatives will include Kindergarten Kits for Families, where over 2,250 families registering a first-time student in local schools will receive prevention materials focused on childhood health, community resources, and wellness tools.
The 2025 Awareness Billboard digital billboard campaign theme will be “Celebrating 40 Years of Building Safe Homes,” illustrated by local youth.
The 2nd Annual Come and Play Day will be held on April 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Commons, where families will be treated to a free interactive event featuring over 35 local agencies providing hands-on activities for children and valuable resources for caregivers.
According to the Family Violence Prevention Council, the Come and Play Day will also include a recognition ceremony for participants in the 2nd Annual Art Contest at 10:30 a.m. in the center court of the Oakdale Commons, along with a dance performance from local mascots at noon.
