January of 1974, I was in the second semester of my first year in college. I spent three years at a two-year college but never graduated. I didn't realize going to class was a pre-requisite to getting a degree. Apparently hanging out at the campus radio station does not translate to credits. Well, it should.

I blame it all on that rock-n-roll music of the mid-70s. We were witnessing so many great bands coming on the scene, and they were producing amazing music. Take The Steve Miller Band for example.

It was around this time in 1974, that the Gangster of Love - Steve Miller and the band, had topped the singles chart in the US with The Joker. We couldn't get enough of that song. The lyrics are infectious. We sang along every time we played it on the college radio station.

And while we're on the subject of The Steve Miller Band, just a reminder they are one of the headliners at Mountian Jam June 16th through the 18th at Hunter Mountain, in Hunter NY. Click on that blue button below for complete information and to purchase tickets.

For this week's Classic Rock Pick, enjoy this video of the band performing The Joker from somewhere in the early 70s. Enjoy, you Space Cowboy!
