It was just talk a couple of years ago, but now the study to consolidate these rival schools is another step towards reality. The second of eight meetings about the merger took place on Tuesday.

The major concerns are the athletic programs, finances and academics. Many people are emotionally involved in this rivalry continuing, but looking at it fiscally is what is needed. Of course that is my opinion, but in these tough times, wouldn't it be smart to combine resources and make the merger product a very strong one?

The timeline after the eighth meeting is for the final report to be sent to the New York State Department of Education on July 1st. The good news is that voters will have to approve the merger. So, yes, you do have a say.
