The website Kiplinger, a financial advising and wealth growing company, has ranked Ithaca, New York among its "Top 50 Best Places to Retire."

Kiplinger called Ithaca the best place for lifelong learners, due to the town hosting both Cornell University and Ithaca College.

Cornell offers residents of the town 60 years or older the chance to audit courses for only $131. Comparing that to their regular tuition of $1,200 per credit hour.

Ithaca college has a relationship with a local assisted living community that gives residents access to learning opportunities, health-related assessments, and recreational activities. Ithaca also has a program in place which seeks to foster and age-friendly community that offers classes, social activities, and travel programs.

Some downfalls of retiring to the Ithaca area is the low winter temperatures and the high costs. The cost of living is 11.9% higher than the national average. The median home value is low for New York State, but is higher than the national average.
