Whose Bat Did NY Yankee’s Bucky Dent Use For His Famous Home Run
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are in the middle of a 6-game homestand against the Double-A Yankees (Somerset Patriots) and tonight (Thursday, September 1st), you have the chance to meet an all-time Yankee great.
Bucky Dent Coming To Mirabito Stadium
Bucky Dent is coming to Mirabito Stadium tonight. Dent was the 1978 World Series MVP and a 3 time Yankee All-Star. He was known for his great glove but for those of us that are old enough to remember, we know him for one homerun.
It was the 1978 American League East tie-breaker game with the winner of the game to be crowned the AL East Division champion. The Yankees were down early and wer behind 2-0 heading into the 7th inning.
In the 7th inning Bucky Dent hit a three-run homer to give the Yankees the lead, and the Bronx Bombers would hold on for a 5-4 and the Yankees advancing to the playoffs. That made Dent a legend and a Boston expletive.
The Bat That Bucky Dent Used In The Yankees Playoff Game Against Boston
Most of us know about that historic hit but do you know what bat Bucky used in that at bat? Dent hadn't had a homer in the last 20 games and he came to the plate in the 7th inning with two men on and two men out.
He borrowed Mickey Rivers bat when he came to the plate but why? Was it because he broke his bat? Nope. The story goes that Rivers told the batboy to tell Dent to use his bat because he had a good feeling about it.
The rest as they say was history but was the bat corked? Yankee fans say "SHHHH!" and Boston say's "FOUL." No one knows for sure and the statute of limitations is up anyway. The Yankees eventually would defeat the Dodgers in the World Series and Dent was named the MVP.
Bucky Dent Meet and Greet At Mirabito Stadium
Tonight (Thursday, September 1st), Bucky will be at Mirabito Stadium and you can ask him for yourself if the bat was corked. Although I would want until AFTER you get a picture and a signed autograph BEFORE asking that particular question.
Get your tickets to meet Bucky before the game that includes an all you eat picnic buffet with a guarantee to meet Bucky Dent. Bring an item for him to sign and get a picture with Bucky...then you can ask him that question if you really want to.
