The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team shocked Stony Brook in an America East quarterfinal playoff game at Island Federal Arena on Long Island.  The seventh-seeded Bearcats upset second-seed Stony Brook 78-72 Saturday night to advance to the conference semifinal round for the first time since 2009.

The Seawolves had defeated Binghamton in both regular season games.  In both of those wins Stony Brook jumped out to a big lead at halftime.  This time the Bearcats were the ones on the attack.  Binghamton was up 43-25 over Stony Brook at halftime and then withstood a furious Seawolves'  comeback late in the second half to earn the upset victory.

Stony Brook had defeated Binghamton four consecutive times in quarterfinal playoff rounds prior to Saturday night.  Rookie of the Year Sam Sessoms led all scorers with 26 points.  J C Show scored 19 points hitting six of seven shots including four three-point baskets and Caleb Stewart scored 16 points to key Binghamton's win.

The Bearcats advance and will face the regular season champion Vermont Catamounts at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday night in Burlington. Airtime is 6:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.  Vermont advances to the semifinals with a 73-57 win over Maine.
