Add Broome County to the Centers for Disease Control list of counties showing a “substantial” level of community transmission of COVID-19.

August 5, Broome was on the CDC map in yellow for “moderate” levels while Delaware had been added to substantial, joining Chenango and Otsego Counties.  By the end of the day, Broome's yellow had turned orange for a "substantial" designation.

“Substantial” is designated at 50 to 100 infections per 100,000 in a population. High, in red, designates more than 100 infections per 100,000.

Tioga and Cortland Counties remain in yellow.

Westchester, New York City, counties on Long Island and Lewis County in Central New York are shown with high community transmission. Only Yates and Schuyler Counties are at low transmission in New York State.

The entire Northern Tier of Pennsylvania, except Wayne County August 6 are listed as moderate transmission.  Wayne is on the CDC Covid Data tracker map as “substantial.”

Most of the cases are driven by the more highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus.
