Hundreds of veterans and their families are expected to visit Binghamton in 2020 for the American Legion Department of New York State Convention.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are expected be pumped into the local economy during the three-day convention.

In making the announcement, county officials said over 1,000 guests were expected and Judi Hess from Visit Binghamton said the group projected the economic impact to be $875,000.

The 2020 visit will be the 7th in Binghamton since the American Legion State Convention began in 1919.  Broome County last hosted the convention in 2016.

Organizers say the Holiday Inn and Double Tree by Hilton in Binghamton will serve as headquarter hotels as well as the Best Western Plus in Johnson City and LaQuinta.  Other hotels in the region will be booked up for the overflow

The Parlor City won the convention over Westchester, which also submitted a bid.
