Road Projects Ahead: Plan Your Routes In Tioga And Broome
I've got to pay more attention to the road construction reports that I mention on the radio. Twice in one day, I had to reroute my travels because I forgot that there were road closures in a couple of areas that I had planned to travel. I blame it on getting older. Lame excuse, I know.
Anyway, here's a heads-up on some upcoming road work projects and some that are already in progress for you to be aware of in our area. Let's start in Tioga County.
Tioga County
Continuing construction on the I-86 corridor, continuing westbound from the work completed in Apalachin last year. On June 11th, exit 65 west off ramp will be re-opened, and simultaneously, the 65 west on ramp will be closed for work in the area.
Upon completing the westbound construction, the process will be repeated at exit 65 eastbound, with an estimated time frame of September 2026 for that work to commence. During construction, detours will be posted at exits 64 and 66, providing travelers with directions and routes of travel.
Broome County Highway Work (For The Week Of June 8)

Also, a major milling and paving project on Vestal Road/County Route 044 has a tentative start date of June 9th through June 23rd (weather dependent). Motorists should expect delays, seek alternate routes, and remember to slow down in work zones.
