I've said for years we are blessed with some great golf courses here in the Binghamton area. And I'm not the only one that feels that way, Golfweek agrees with that statement as well.

Last week, Golfweek released their best golf courses you can play in New York. They did one list for public golf courses, and one list for private golf courses. A Broome County public course made their top 10, and it's probably not the one you would expect.

When you look at their list of public courses, some of them that made the list are courses that the PGA Tour uses. Golfweek ranked Bethpage Black ranked number one for public courses in the state. Bethpage Black, located in Farmingdale, is one of the hardest courses in the county. The course has held PGA major tournaments in the past.

Turning Stone Resort had three of their five courses make the top 15. Atunyote, which held a few PGA Tour events over the years, including the final B. C. Open in 2006 after En-Joie was heavily damaged in the flood, finished third. Turning Stone's Shenandoah and Kaluhyat placed in 9th and 11th respectively.

Coming in at number 10 was Conklin Players Club. Conklin Players Club opened in 1991 and is located on Route 7 in Conklin. The course is always very well maintained and features GPS in the carts. Plus it has breathtaking scenic views, especially this time of year.

In my opinion, other courses in the Binghamton area that could have made this list would include En-Joie Golf Club, home of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open and PGA Tour golf since 1973, and The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin. I would say that those two courses, along with Conklin, are the three nicest in the area.

Other nice golf courses in our area that just keep getting better every year, in my opinion, are Belden Hill, Genegantslet, and Tall Pines.
