August 25, 1976 - It's hard to believe it was 39 years ago this week that Boston released their debut album.

When I think of an ultimate rock band, the group Boston always comes to mind. When their debut album was released in 1976, most of us had never heard this type of sound. It was like the angels formed a band ascended from Heaven and came to play for us.

Perfect vocals with spot on harmonies, guitars complete with angelic riffs, and keyboard riffs that blew your mind. They created musical masterpieces like More Than A Feeling Peace Of Mind, Rock and Roll Band, and Long Time. This the best selling debut album of all time! No kidding. It peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and remained on the charts for 132 weeks.

Tom Scholz was the mastermind behind the band's sound and its success (he played every instrument on the demo except for the drums). Scholz also brought Brad Delp into the band sealed their legacy as one of the greatest rock bands in history.

The first two albums were the best and most memorable for me.  I remember the first time I heard Boston and yes it was right here on 99.1 The Whale!
