A Binghamton store operated by a community organization that provides clothing for those in need has been forced to close.

The Nearly New Shop had been located in a building owned by Catholic Charities of Broome County for more than two decades.

Helen Sacco, a member of the Ladies of Charity, said the group was advised the space at 100 Main Street was needed to expand a food pantry.

Sacco said the Nearly New Shop has made affordable clothing available to people in Binghamton for several decades.

The volunteers who have operated the store have been looking for an appropriate space on Binghamton's West Side or in the First Ward so operations can resume.

Sacco said property owners who may have a potential site available at a reasonable cost may contact her at (607) 748-4057.

Catholic Charities executive director Lori Accardi could not be reached Thursday to discuss the agency's specific plans for the space that had been used by the Nearly New Shop.
