Binghamton Residents Remember Aliza Spencer on Her Birthday

Students, teachers and others in Binghamton wore purple to honor the memory of Aliza Spencer on what would have been her 13th birthday.

Aliza died last spring after she was shot in the chest while walking with her father and brother near their home on the city's East Side. No arrests have been made in connection with the April 21 shooting.

"Happy Birthday" messages had been added to a small memorial at the corner of Bigelow and Chamberlain streets, near the site where Aliza was wounded.

Aliza was a sixth-grade student at East Middle School, a few blocks from where she lived.

A sign calling attention to a reward for information leading to her killer remains posted on a tree in front of the school on East Frederick Street.

A message remembering Aliza is posted on a sign board at the nearby Calvin Coolidge Elementary School on Robinson Street.

The reward offered in the case has grown to $29,500. A woman who has been promoting a "Justice for Aliza" campaign said many people seem to be unaware of the reward.

Billboards and a sign on a BC Transit bus have been used to in an effort to let area residents know the investigation into the girl's death remains active.
