Binghamton Property Owner Arrested for Housing Code Violations

A man who the mayor has called "Binghamton's most notorious slumlord" has been arrested on more than a dozen warrants alleging violations of the city's housing code.

Authorities say 39-year-old Isaac Anzaroot of Brooklyn was taken into custody at a Court Street location without incident.

According to a news release issued by Binghamton police department detective Captain Cory Minor, Anzaroot was arrested around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Anzaroot owns many residential and commercial properties in Binghamton and elsewhere in Broome County. The news release indicated he "was wanted in regard to 12 bench warrants and 2 arrest warrants issued by Binghamton City Court."

The charges are violation-level offenses relating to the city's housing code.

Mayor Jared Kraham described Anzaroot as the city's "most notorious slumlord" during a campaign appearance last fall. Kraham also made a similar assertion after taking office early this year when he held a news conference in front of a West Side apartment house owned by an entity linked to Anzaroot.

In announcing the arrest of Anzaroot, Kraham issued a statement saying his administration is "serious about holding slumlords, and all those who violate the City's housing codes, accountable."

Anzaroot could not be reached for comment following his arrest.

In the past, Anzaroot has said there's a campaign "to push me out of town." But he told WNBF News in May: "I'm not going without a fight."
