Several police agencies sent units to Binghamton's West Side as investigators worked to locate people who may have been involved in a series of drive-by shooting incidents.

People in the area of Gerard Avenue and Oak Street said detectives spent hours investigating the reported shootings late Tuesday night. One resident said sections of streets were closed for an extended time while police searched the area for evidence.

Binghamton police officers converged on the neighborhood. New York State Police and a state Department of Environmental Conservation police vehicle also responded to the area.

Police for a short time were looking for a Ford Escape that had been seen leaving the area. That vehicle was stopped minutes later about one block north of Binghamton High School.
