Binghamton Mayor Richard David says he's aware of one city police officer who has tested positive for COVID-19.

David said the officer was asymptomatic, meaning the officer wasn't sick and did not exhibit any coronavirus symptoms.

During an interview on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor said the officer had contacted a physician and followed through with appropriate protocols of staying home for the appropriate length of time.

David said he believes the officer will be able to return to work later this week.

The mayor did not indicate whether any other police department employees were required to quarantine or take other action for coming into contact with the officer. He said the city personnel department and police administration have been in contact with health department representatives and are following necessary procedures.

Daivd said he had not been made aware of any positive coronavirus cases involving Binghamton fire department employees.
