Binghamton Man Drowns off New Jersey

A Binghamton man is dead after reportedly being caught in a rip current off the coast of New Jersey last week.

The Press of Atlantic City reports 67-year-old James Lane drowned in the ocean off Grant Beach near Cape May, New Jersey.

Police were called by the Beach Patrol at around 3:34 p.m. September 26 for a water rescue.

The report says Lane was found face-down in the surf about 50 yards from the beach.

Lane was pronounced dead at Cape Regional Medical Center.

Officials had said Grant Beach is not actively guarded since the weekend after Labor day.
