Binghamton Developer Acquires Downtown Parcel for Building
A city-owned site in the center of the downtown Binghamton business district has been sold for a proposed mixed-use building project.
Developer Mark Yonaty has been working for several years to acquire the parcel at Court and State streets for construction of a commercial and residential building.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Yonaty said the sale of the site has officially closed with a purchase price of $75,000. He said the lot has been secured with some temporary construction fencing.
Yonaty said final design work for the proposed building is taking place, along with selection of a contractor for the project with an eye toward construction starting in late winter or early spring.
The revised project plans call for two commercial tenants on the ground floor and five luxury apartments on the second floor. Yonaty said Visions Federal Credit Union is expected to be one of the tenants.
The site has been vacant for several years since the Ross and O'Neil buildings were torn down because they posed a safety hazard.
