Bearcats Baseball Standouts Honored by America East

The America East Conference held its baseball banquet and awards ceremony at the Events Center tonight (Tuesday).  The festivities kicked off the America East Baseball Championship Tournament.  Play begins tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. with UMass Lowell meeting Maine.  The Bearcats have their first game at 2:30 when they meet the Hartford Hawks.

Binghamton finished in third place in the conference and was well represented in the awards presentations.  Three Bearcats were named to the All-Conference Second Team.  Pitchers Nick Gallagher and Thomas Babalis and designated hitter Sean Trenholm received those honors.

Three Bearcats were named to the All-Conference First Team.  Pitcher Ben Anderson, second baseman Alex Baratta and outfielder Shane Marshall received those honors.

Bearcat pitchers also took home two of the major awards presented.  Ben Anderson was named the America East Pitcher of the Year.  Freshman Thomas Babalis was selected as the America East Rookie of the Year.

The double elimination tournament runs through Saturday.  The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA National Championship Tournament.
