It's hard to believe with all the snow that we have currently in the Southern Tier, that in about two months the Binghamton Rumble Ponies season will be under way.

On Thursday, April 13th, they'll be playing host to Erie on the first of many firework nights at NYSEG Stadium. Here's the complete schedule.

Major League Baseball is kicking around the idea of a new rule. The idea that's being tossed around (get it, tossed around) is putting a runner on second base during extra innings. There are a couple of reasons:

1) It's to get the game over faster and help speed things along. The complaint for the last couple of years is that the game takes too long to play. They've already added a pitch clock that you can see on the field.

I say, if you want to really speed things along, then start calling a strike where it was meant to be at the letters, not the belt buckle.

2) To save the pitching staff. More pitchers are on a pitch and inning count. No one really wants to watch a utility player trot out to the mound because the pitching staff has been used up.

I talked to the General Manger of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Jim Weed and he told me that as of now, that rule is not in effect for them but that could change before the season starts.

If you're a baseball purist, don't freak out because the Big Boys have to adopt the change and almost everything in baseball moves at a slower pace.
