Fire tore through the front portion of the building at 38 Columbus Park East during the early morning hours of March 1.

Investigators initially concluded slightly more than half of the building sustained fire damage.

Mayor Richard David had said he believed it was likely the structure would be demolished because of the extensive damage.

But city building officials have been working with the property owner and it now appears the building can be salvaged.

The owner is said to be seeking permission to demolish the porches on the front section of the building where most of the fire damage was confined.

Broome County records show the property has been owned by Abraham Nyameh of Brooklyn since 2006.

Fire investigators ruled the Columbus Park East blaze was intentionally set. It was one of four apparent arson cases involving unoccupied residential buildings in Binghamton in the span of less than a week.

No arrests have been made in connection with the fires.
