Announcement Expected on Fate of Boys And Girls Club Facility

Some big news about the future of the Boys and Girls Club Family Center site in Endicott is expected within a few days.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program on Thursday, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said he expects an announcement about steps that will be taken to deal with the situation "as early as next week."

The county executive said he views developing a plan for the property and the programs that had been provided there as a high priority.

Garnar Thursday said there have been meetings with "dozens of stakeholders" since last week's surprise announcement that the facility was closing.

He added local government representatives "want to see that building stay open in some way, shape or form." He said there's a desire to preserve as many programs and services as possible.

The county executive said securing the building which is located just east of Union-Endicott High School will be important initial step in responding to the sudden closure.

Garnar said details about a "path forward" could be revealed within a few days. He said the county is working with state representatives, along with officials from the village of Endicott and the town of Union to explore options to restore services people had utilized at the site.
