A giraffe born at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville is not going to be heading south.

The park has announced that it has cancelled the planned transfer of Tajiri to a new wildlife facility in North Carolina.

Animal Adventure's beloved April the giraffe gave birth to Tajiri in April 2017. Tajiri was expected to be moved to Carolina Wildlife Conservation Park this month.

Animal Adventure on Saturday announced that "requirements and deadlines were not satisfied" on time for Tajiri's scheduled transfer to occur. Officials did not elaborate on the problems that prevented the planned move.

Construction is to start Monday on a new building to house Tajiri at Animal Adventure. Officials said the facility could house Tajiri and a possible second giraffe or companion animal during the colder months.

The new project is expected to be completed in three to four weeks.

Park owner Jordan Patch in July announced April was pregnant again. April now is 17 years old.
