In 1968
Led Zeppelin, under the name the New Yardbirds, played their first concert at a club in London. (do you think that the place was empty?)

In 1972
Creedence Clearwater Revival announced the group was breaking up.

In 1976
Boston's "More Than A Feeling" broke into the Top 40. (and thus started the onslaught of slugs that jammed up the jukebox in the Chenango Forks High School cafeteria.... all set to play C-1)  

In 1977
Steely Dan released the album "Aja." (um.... it's A-ha)

In 1982
Alan Parsons Project's "Eye In The Sky" peaked at number three on the pop singles chart.

Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby" peaked at number eight on the pop singles chart.

In 1990
ZZ Top released the album "Recycler." (It was made from recycled tires)

In 1992
Eric Clapton, Neil Young, and George Harrison were among those who performed at a salute concert to Bob Dylan.  Controversial Irish singer Sinead O'Connor also attempted to perform, but was booed off the stage. (because she was bald? I'm thinking.... NOT!)

In 1997
Alice Cooper was recognized for his contribution to the world of fantasy and horror with the first every Eyegore Award from Universal Studios in Hollywood.

Bob Dylan received the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize Trust award.

In 2001
New album releases included John Mellencamp's "Cuttin' Heads" and the September 11th fundraising CD "The Day America Cried - Songs of Hope For a Unified Nation," featuring members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Night Ranger, 38 Special, and others.

In 2002
Bon Jovi's album "Bounce" debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at number two, while Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' album "The Last DJ" debuted at number nine.

In 2003
U2 donated 46-thousand-dollars to the sex abuse charity One in Four.  The organization was about to fold because it had no money.

Courtney Love appeared at a court hearing in an effort to regain custody of her daughter, Francis Bean Cobain.  The girl had been placed with her grandmother -- Kurt Cobain's mom -- after Love was arrested for being under the influence of drugs.

Simon & Garfunkel launched their "Old Friends" reunion tour with a show in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. (And LeeAnn Taylor was in the front row for a half hour, till she realized it wasn't Brooks and Dunn)

Duane Eddy hosted a guitar master class at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

In 2004
Queen's Roger Taylor and Brian May performed at the MTV Russia Awards in Moscow with local singer Zemfira -- who's considered the Janis Joplin of Russia.  They played the song "We Are The Champions."

In 2006
Meat Loaf presented "Bat Out of Hell on Broadway" before a sold out house at London's Royal Albert Hall.  The three-act show offered a chronological presentation of material from the singer's three "Bat" albums.

In 2007
Peter Gabriel received the BMI Icon Award at the performing rights organization's annual dinner event in London.

New releases included the AC/DC DVD "Plug Me In" and the DVD "Runnin' Down a Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers."

In 2008
Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel performed a collaborative concert at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom in support of Illinois Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

In 2011
Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Sheryl Crow were among the performers at the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington, DC
