An Albany area man is accused of traveling to Broome County expecting to have sex with a 10-year-old child only to find undercover officers waiting for him.

Federal prosecutors say 53-year-old Charles Wager of Castleton-on-Hudson is charged with attempting to entice or coerce a child.

According to the authorities, Wager allegedly started an electronic messaging conversation with an undercover police officer posing as a parent of a ten-year-old child.  Wager reportedly described his interest in having sexual contact with the fictitious child and described explicitly what he wanted to do when he met the youngster.

Prosecutors say Wager traveled from Castleton-on-Hudson to Broome County on February 5 expecting the pre-arranged tryst but ended up finding law enforcement officers at the meeting location.

If convicted, Wager could spend ten years to life in prison and be fined up to $250,000.

The U.S. Attorney’s office is asking members of the public who have information related to the case or feel they have been victimized by Wager to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Binghamton at (607) 778-7240.
