In 1970

To promote the release of Pink Floyd's album "Atom Heart Mother," the band's record label put up 30-foot-high billboards of the album's cover. (unfortunatly they were all in Afganistan, The Congo, and West Virginia, so noone ever bought the Album)

In 1977

The Rolling Stones began working on the album "Some Girls" in Paris.

In 1978

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were injured when a fan threw a cherry bomb on stage during a concert in Philadelphia. (It was a marachino cherry laced with 151 rum, and both Tyler and Perry smacked heads as they were diving for it on the stage)

In 1979

Fleetwood Mac received a star on Hollywood Boulevard.

In 1980

Bruce Springsteen released the album "The River."

In 1986

Van Halen released the album "5150."

In 1987

Whitesnake hit number one on the pop singles chart with "Here I Go Again." (and again, and again, and again)

In 1992

Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash married model Renee Suran.  They've since divorced, and Slash has remarried.

In 1995

Peter Frampton released the album "Frampton Comes Alive 2." (it never really, came alive)

In 2001

U2 hosted a live Webcast of its concert at Notre Dame University.

Styx's Dennis DeYoung sued the band for going on tour without him and for what he considered to be the misuse of the group's logo.

In 2004

R.E.M.'s "Around the Sun" hit number one on the UK album chart.

In 2005

Oasis, Gorillaz, U2, and Coldplay were among the big winners at the British "Q" Awards.  Former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, the Bee Gees, the Kinks, and the late John Lennon earned honorary awards.  In accepting the former Beatle's trophy, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono took a jab at Paul McCartney, recalling that Lennon would get upset that artists covered McCartney's songs more often than his.  She said she reassured him by saying his material was complex and deep, quote, "not just 'June with spoon.'"

In 2006

John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was denied parole in his fourth attempt to regain his freedom.  He's serving a 20-years-to-life sentence for the December 1980 shooting.

Chris Cornell began a two-day video shoot in Los Angeles for the clip "You Know My Name," the theme to the James Bond film "Casino Royale."

New releases included Rod Stewart's album "Still the Same...Great Rock Classics of Our Time," Jimmy Buffett's CD "Take the Weather With You," and The Eagles of Death Metal's DVD "DVD by Sexy."

In 2007

Former Byrds frontman Roger McGuinn, Phoebe Snow, Joss Stone, Shawn Colvin, Aimee Mann, The Raconteurs' Brendan Benson, former Phish keyboardist Page McConnell, and The Mavericks' Raul Malo were among the performers at an all-star charity salute at New York's Carnegie Hall honoring Elton John.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's "Magic" debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart.  The album also entered charts in the top spot in Canada, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Austria.

In 2010

Solomon Burke died while traveling from Los Angeles to The Netherlands for a concert.  He was 70.
