The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office may be confusing some motorists with their Random Acts of Kindness Holiday Initiative.

Officers have been giving out gift certificates provided by local businesses instead of tickets for minor infractions like a broken tail light.

Deputies have also been looking for residents engaged in positive activity in their community to reward them.

The Sheriff’s Office says over $1,200 in donations for the initiative were received.

Undersheriff Craig DuMond says the program has definitely caught people off guard.

In addition to handing out gift cards, the Police Benevolent Association and Delaware County Office for aging selected 12 elderly residents to received Christmas gifts funded through a lump sum donation from the PBA.
