Days after an Edmeston man was charged with cruelty as 27 dead cows were found on a rented dairy farm, the Susquehanna Animal Shelter was called to care for four emaciated pigs they described as literally “swimming” in mud and manure.

Sheriff’s officials say charges are likely to be filed in the case.

Humane groups say anyone who finds they are unable to properly care for an animal or several animals should contact rescue agencies for help.

Anyone suspecting mistreatment of animals, as in both cases in Otsego County, should contact authorities.
