Abandoned Hess Gas Station On Binghamton’s South Side Demolished
A building that once housed a Hess Mart store in Binghamton has been torn down in preparation for a future project.
The property at Vestal and Pennsylvania avenues was acquired by Tioga State Bank just over one year ago.
The Spencer-based company acquired the site from Speedway LLC for $440,000. Speedway had obtained the site in 2014 when it took over Hess gas stations in the region.
Bank president Robert Fisher on Tuesday afternoon said the company is considering its options for the site. He said "we like the location" for a possible branch office.
Although there are no immediate plans to build on the corner parcel, Fisher said the bank wanted to remove the old structure to improve the site's appearance.
This story has been updated to include comments by the Tioga State Bank president.
