The switch from bulky paper ledger books at the polling places to iPads for the off-year election seems to have gone fairly well both for early voting and on election day.

There were a few glitches, however, with some people showing up to vote at their normal polling place where they have gone for years only to find they were persona non grata, or at least non-existent this year.

Voters whose names were not in the new technology were quickly issued affidavit ballots to be counted along with absentee tallies later this month.

A check at a couple polling places in the early afternoon had volunteers reporting a fairly good turnout for a year with no major state or national contests.  Many speculated the hotly-contested Broome County District Attorney race had something to do with the good voter turnout before some cold rain put a damper on foot-traffic for a time before the traditionally busier evening hours.

Also helping, according to elections officials, may be the new law in New York allowing three hours of paid time off for people to exercise their right to vote.
