A young child fell from a minibus in motion on Interstate 81 just south of Binghamton.

Authorities say the 3-year-old boy was in the rear section of the vehicle with other children when he leaned on an emergency window.

The child plunged to the highway when the window opened.

According to New York State Police, the incident was reported around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say the boy fell from the southbound vehicle near mile marker 2 in the town of Kirkwood.

The child sustained lacerations, bumps and bruises. Police say he was alert and crying at the scene. He was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. His name and condition were not released.

Police say the boy was in one of two minibuses traveling together. The occupants of the vehicles are from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

After the child fell to the highway, the vehicles turned around and returned to the scene. The boy was discovered running along the shoulder of Interstate 81.
