25 Years After His Retirement, Larson’s Bringing Back ‘The Far Side’
I remember as a kid always grabbing the Sunday comics from the newspaper to check out my favorites, Peanuts, Garfield, Family Circus, and of course, B.C. and The Wizard of Id, both from the late Broome County native Johnny Hart.
When it comes to comic strips there are those that appeal to the masses like Peanuts, Garfield, Beetle Bailey, etc, and then there are those with cult followings like The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes.
I remember how sad I was when both Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes, and Gary Larson, the creator of The Far Side, both retired.
Years ago I had a day calendar of The Far Side on my desk at the radio station. Still to this day if someone talks about something that reminds me of one of those Larson classics, I will do my best to explain the comic strip to them.
If you are a big fan of The Far Side, I have some good news to share with you. Laughing Squid is reporting that Gary Larson has a new Far Side website after 25 years of retirement. The previous website has remained virtually untouched for 19 years.
The new The Far Side website features both classic comic strips as well as brand new comic strips daily. Check out the new website here, and maybe save it as a favorite so you can check out new The Far Side comic strips everyday.
