The first part of the Martin Scorsese documentary "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" made its debut on PBS.
In 2006
Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton joined the band at its hometown show in Boston, performing "Sweet Emotion" with the group.  The bassist wasn't touring with Aerosmith because he was still recovering from treatments he had over the summer for throat cancer.
In 2007
A mistrial was declared in Phil Spector's murder case, after jurors revealed that for a second time they were unable to come to a unanimous decision.  But it was a much closer vote this time.  Initially the jury was deadlocked with a seven-five split, this time they were divided ten-to-two, with the majority for a conviction.  Immediately after the mistrial was declared, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office announced that prosecutors planned to reinstate the charge against Spector, and were already prepping for a new trial.

Bon Jovi was honored by the New York chapter of the Recording Academy.  Guitarist Richie Sambora joined his band mates for the event, and his appearance effectively squashed rumors that he had checked into rehab for a second time in less than a year.

The Rolling Stones earned a spot in the Guinness World Records book for the most successful music tour with the group's "A Bigger Bang" trek.  U2 has since broken the Stones' record.

 

In 2008
Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and T Bone Burnett played a benefit concert in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to help with recovery efforts along the Texas Gulf Cost following Hurricane Ike.  They were originally scheduled to perform in the Houston area, but the venue had been damaged by the storm and there were no other local facilities that could host the show.

The musical adaptation of Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage" had its premiere at at Hollywood's Open Fist Theater.
