There is a story in the news right now that I’m sure is creating a lot of water cooler talk in the workplaces of America.

A 43 year old court stenographer was fired for writing gibberish and the phrase ‘I hate my job’ over and over on his teletype instead of the actual court room transcriptions, which caused court officials in this New York Courtroom to retry several cases.

I think we have all felt frustrated and unappreciated somewhere in our employment history.

Personally, I have been a short order cook, sonar operator in the US NAVY, machinist, I worked in a tire recap shop, and even was a store detective for a short while, all before my career behind the microphone. A love affair I have been blessed to be active in for almost 30 years.

Whenever anything about my career gets me down, I just have to think about what I could be doing instead, and like a Homer Simpson small voice inside my head, I hear the words ‘shut up this is the greatest job in the world’

I will spare you any of the example jobs that went through my head, because you may be doing one of them and not that I consider any position beneath me, I wouldn’t want anyone to take offense.

I’m sure many of you wouldn’t trade your jobs for anything and if you’re unhappy I would suggest you think about other possibilities and seek out that voice in your head.

One of the greatest things about this country is freedom of choice, and for me, this is the greatest job in the world.
