Authorities in Cortland County say a woman who was running away from police officers attempted climb the outside of a Tops supermarket building.

Investigators say 31-year-old Nicole Chaffee of Cortland was arrested after she fought with sheriff's department officers around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers checked on the occupants of a car parked in a fire lane in front of the store on Route 281 in the town of Cortlandville.

Chaffee did not provide proper documentation for the vehicle and her driver's license was suspended. Police also discovered she was in possession of narcotics.

Chaffee allegedly struggled with officers when they tried to take her into custody. She then tried to scale the wall of the Tops building in an attempt to get away.

Chaffee was charged with resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned in Cortlandville town court and sent to Cortland County Jail on $250 bail.
