Winter Storm Watch Issued for Parts of Twin Tiers, Central and Northern New York

The calendar may say "Spring" but the National Weather Service is still warning about Winter weather.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 2 a.m. March 22 to 11 a.m. March 23.

Forecasters say Broome, Chenango, Cortland and Delaware Counties in New York and Susquehanna and Northern Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania are looking at a potential of three to eight inches of snow with winds gusting as high as 40 miles an hour.

Syracuse and Utica are looking at a possible 5 to 10 inches of snow and blowing snow with areas to the north, like Watertown, expecting 6 to 11 inches of snow.

Areas to the west of Binghamton were not included in the watch area as of March 21 and the snow, that's predicted to start early in the morning March 22 in the Southern Tier was expected to start later in the morning by several hours to the north.

The National Weather Service says in addition to possible heavy snow, strong winds could cause blowing snow as the system passes through.

Motorists should anticipate slippery roads for the evening commute Friday.
