If you're anything like me, you're getting that itch to work on a project for spring. Whether something around the house, something in the garage, maybe gardening? I plan to work on plenty of things this spring - considering I just got several new tools! Here's my project so far:

In case you couldn't tell, that's a fire pit. I plan to dig down 6-8 inches in the back yard, and put in a cinder block fire pit. It will stand around 32" tall, and around 40" wide. The inside will be filled with rocks and aggregate to help with drainage, and keep the wood off of the solid ground (allow for a little more air flow under the wood as well). But, that's not all - the real work will come in creating the surround out of pallet slabs, in order to have a "table top" around the pit, covered with fire retardant paint. I'm toying with the idea of keeping one of the sides open without a surround, and turning one of the support cinder blocks on its side, to allow for an air vent, and not worrying about the wood above it getting too hot. What do you think? Do you see anything that I should work more on, or add/remove from the project? I will follow up as this project progresses.
