It's a beautiful summer weekend to enjoy new things! How about checking out one of these Southern Tier events?

The Community Assistance Celebration is at the Cortland County Fairgrounds today through Sunday! It runs until 9 tonight, 10 am to 9 pm Saturday and noon to 5 pm on Sunday with Chicken bbq, live bands, craft and food vendors and more! benefits the Wickwire Pool fund.

The Endicott Elks Friday dinner includes stuffed peppers and their regular menu. They serve from 5 to 8 pm.

The Islamic Awareness Center is hosting a health expo at 74 Conklin Ave from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday. There will be speakers, demonstrations, and health screenings. Plus the Lourdes Mission in Motion Mammography Van will be there.

The Discovery Center's Summer Carnival, themed after the Wizard of Oz, on Monday. rain or shine the fun will include carnival booths, games, entertainment and more! Plus take a free ride on the BC Trolley to the Story garden. It runs from 10 am to 3:30 pm.

Thompson United Methodist Church in Thompson, PA is having a roast beef supper on Saturday at 5 pm. Eat in or take out.

The Broome County Public Library's Summer Reading program kicks off on Monday! Families who sign up and complete their reading log by August 23rd will earn free books, B-Mets tickets and the chance to win a Kindle Fire. To  find out the schedule and more info, call 778-6456.

it's a Doug's Fish Fry to Go and Bake Sale on Wednesday from 11 am to 6 pm at the Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Blvd. It benefits the vacation bible school.
