I love Spring in the Southern Tier! So many organizations take the time to put on fundraisers to help charities, and you can be sure many of them involve food.

It's a good way to get out and meet new people and help the community. Here are some events going on:

First off, it's your chance to help a young woman with cancer. Mandy Lowe is only 25 and needs help paying medical bills, as her treatments are not covered by insurance. Join her fight at the American Legion on Main Street in Binghamton, Saturday from 1 to 5 pm. There will be food, drinks, raffles and a bake sale.

The Oxford Fort Hill American Legion Auxiliary is having their Great Garage Sale Day and Bake Sale on Saturday (rain or shine), at the Legion from 8 am to 2 pm. There will be children's face painting and plenty of great shopping.

Our Savior Lutheran Church, 731 Hooper Rd in Endwell, is hosting a women's conference on Saturday from 7 to 9 pm. "Made For More" is geared toward helping you live a more satisfying and authentic life.

Food! Dive in to a chicken barbecue on Saturday from noon until sold out at the Gibson Grange Hall on Route 92 in Gelatt, PA. Call 570-756-2958 to pre-order or you can buy at the door.  And there is a chicken barbecue at the Maine American Legion on Sunday from noon until sold out, too.

Stop by another chicken barbecue Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of JC, 2 Main Street, from 10 am until sold out! Or at the North Fenton UMC on Route 79 Saturday from 4 to 7 pm for delicious chicken barbecue!

St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Ave in Endicott, is hosting a rummage and bake sale on Saturday. It's from 9 am to 3 pm with a bag sale from 1 to 3.

Maybe you could take Mom to the monthly roast beef dinner at the Maine Masonic Lodge? It's Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Take outs are available.

You have more chances to spoil Mom with breakfast on Sunday at the Knights of Columbus, 136 Park Ave in Binghamton from 8 am to noon or at the Endicott Elks from 8 am to 11 am.

On Wednesday, there will be a barbecue luncheon at noon at the Broome East Senior Center, 27 Golden Lane in Harpursville. There will be music too. Reservations can be made by calling the Senior Center by noon on Tuesday.

Enjoy and Happy Mother's Day!
