It's another fun filled weekend in the Southern Tier! While the weather is warm (we know how fast that can change), get out and take advantage of all the free or low cost activities offered up. Here's a list for you.

If you have an event you want us to put on a future list, let me know.

Let's start with theater. There is nothing as interesting as a good community play.  So, check out Spare Productions   "Once Upon A Mattress" at St. Francis of Hillcrest. Shows are today and tomorrow at 1 and 7 pm.

This is an anytime deal, but it deserves mention.  Did you know there are many benefits available to recently returned combat vets? The Binghamton Vet Center has a slew of programs. Contact them at 722-2393. Help with readjusting to civilian life and family support are part of it!

I like a good sale and good food. This covers both. West Chenango United Methodist Church, 433 Upper Stella Ireland Rd, is hosting a chicken bbq and rummage sale on tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm.

For a great breakfast, head to the Endicott Elks on Sunday from 8 to 11:30 am. You'll get your fill of eggs, bacon, pancakes and more.  Oh this is good.

It's another round of sale/food combo with the North Fenton United Methodist Church, on Route 79. They host a rummage and bake sale today from 8 am to 1 pm and 4 to 6 pm. Tomorrow it's a bag sale from 8 am to noon.

Local performer Jared Campbell performs at the Vestal Center UMC, 478 West Hill Rd, on tonight at 7 pm. (Proceeds benefit CHOW).  If you have never heard Jared, you need to go.

It's always good to lend a helping hand, so head to this. It's a Doug's Fish Fry, today from 11 am to 6 pm at the Vestal Library Parking Lot. Proceeds benefit Tina Barton and is sponsored by the Vestal Sertoma Club.

Coming up on Thursday, it's another Doug's Fish fry, so make plans. Choconut Center UMC is sponsoring this one at the Toys-R-Us on Harry. L. Drive in JC. It's a bake sale too. Plan to stop by between 11 am and 6 pm.

For Binghamton City Youth interested in football, the Parks & Rec department is beginning its Pee Wee Football Clinic on Sunday at 5 pm at West middle School. Kids entering grades 5,6 and 7 are welcome to attend. if you need info on this call 772-7017.

For ongoing adult stuff to do, I've found a way to improve your mind. The Broome County Public Library is holding an Adult Summer reading program through August 31st. To get details call 778-6451.

For the kids: St. Paul's Church, 282 Chenango St in Binghamton, hosts Knights of Mary Immaculate Youth Group on Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 pm. Kids ages 14 plus are welcome to come.

And a vacation bible school: Redeemer Lutheran Church, 72 main St in Binghamton, is having vacation bible school from July 22 through the 26th from 6;30 to 8:30 pm. Ages 4 to 11.
