The Centers for Disease Control is in outbreak mode as cases of the Measles cross the country.

According to the CDC, the outbreak started at an amusement park (later identified as Disneyland) in California. The press has taken hold of the story because a New York college student, infected with the Measles, traveled through travel hub Penn Station in New York City last Sunday. Read the NBC story here.

Penn Station is one of the busiest travel centers in the country. Big headache for the CDC! States affected by this outbreak include Pennsylvania and New York.

There are some things you need to know about Measles and this outbreak to protect yourself and your family.

1. Make sure you know if you've been vaccinated. This outbreak was caused by people not vaccinated. If you don't know if you got the shot, consult your doctor o decide whether to be vaccinated.

2. Know the symptoms. If you suspect you have Measles, go to the doctor immediately. Symptoms include cough, runny nose, inflamed eyes, sore throat, fever and a red, blotchy skin rash. It may be tough to figure out what illness you have, so if you get a fever, see the doctor.

3. Do not travel or go out in public if you have Measles.

4. Don't freak out. If you and your family are vaccinated, be vigilant but don't stress. It is possible to get Measles if you are vaccinated, but it is much less possible.

5. If you have any questions at all, talk with your doctor.
