I’m sure you’ve seen it, someone walking down the street or riding a bike, with music blaring through head phones, or ear buds from their electronic devices.

A survey from the University of Maryland found that injuries to pedestrians wearing headphones have tripled over the past 6 years.

Now, I wear headphones in the studio and have for years, so I know first hand what blocking out sounds around you does to your train of thought.

We talk about the distractions that other electronic devices cause, like talking and texting on cell phones. There are now laws put into place because of the serious consequences that have resulted from the distractions they cause.

I don’t know if there should be a law regarding headphones in public, but I think people should be aware of the dangers.

If the statistics regarding injuries due to distractions from audio devices continue, I’m sure society will find deterrents. But for now consider this no more than a public service friendly reminder blog.
