Water Line Splinters, Closing Road in Glendale
A 12-foot section of water line ruptured in the town of Union resulting in the closure of a section of Glendale Road for several hours.
A foreman with the Endicott Water Department said the problem was reported around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
The water line, which had been installed several decades ago, splintered. A substantial amount of water was released after the break, creating muddy conditions on a portion of Glendale Road near West Main Street.
A few nearby homes had low water pressure because of the problem. Water service was shut off to some customers for about four hours overnight while the broken line was replaced.
Water service to the neighboring Glendale Technology Park was not affected by the ruptured line.
Water line breaks tend to be common in the spring because of ground movement that occurs during the repeated freeze-thaw temperature cycle.
The Endicott Water Department repaired another broken line on Taft Avenue in the town of Union on Monday.
