Authorities say an employee of a Walmart store in Cortland County has been accused of stealing merchandise from the business.

Investigators say Melanie Adam of Cortland was arrested around 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office, Adam has been charged with petit larceny.

Adam allegedly stole items from the Walmart store in the town of Cortlandville during the months of November and December.

Authorities say Adam went through a self-checkout lane but failed to scan merchandise.

Investigators did not indicate the number of occasions when the purported thefts occurred. They also did not provide an estimated value of the stolen merchandise or whether any of the items were recovered.

Adam was ordered to appear in Cortlandville town court on February 11.
