Binghamton Mayor Richard David says he has gotten word shortly before 10:30 a.m. that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting of a man in a parked car on Susquehanna Street April 1.

Appearing on Binghamton Now with Bob Joseph, the Mayor said he had just received a text message informing him of the arrest but he had few other details to share.

The Binghamton incident in which a man was shot several times shortly before noon April 1st has left 40 year old Grady Hunter of Binghamton with life-threatening injuries. The Mayor said Hunter is undergoing treatment in Syracuse and, at last word, was said to be in critical condition.

The shooting in Binghamton happened hours after a woman was shot and killed and two others wounded in a shooting on Crocker Avenue in neighboring Johnson City.

In that shooting at around 6:30 a.m., 46 year old Erika Smith Cunningham was killed. The woman was said to be living in Binghamton but was originally from Queens. The names of the other two injured in that incident have not been released.

Mayor David says he was informed of both shootings and is aware authorities are looking into whether or not to two incidents may have been in some way connected.

In both cases, police have said the shootings were not random acts.
