Soon there will be fewer options for service in and out of the Greater Binghamton airport.

United Airlines has informed Broome County and company employees that is shutting down service November 29 since the route between Newark and Binghamton is “not meeting expectations and is no longer sustainable.”

The statement from United says they are contacting customers with reservations after November 29 to provide refunds.

Earlier this year, United announced it was eliminating its service between the Elmira/Corning airport and Chicago.

That leaves American and Delta serving the Broome airport.

County Aviation Commissioner, David Hickling says the move by United was a surprise, but it strengthens the market for the remaining two carriers.

Between American and Delta, service is provided from Binghamton to Philadelphia and Detroit.
