Authorities said 22-year-old Luis Rodriquez Jr. of Binghamton has been charged with attempted murder and criminal use of a weapon. They say 28-year-old John English was charged with first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

Investigators said Rodriquez is accused of shooting 51-year-old Jacque Hall in the face and 30-year-old Heather Houck in the leg. English is accused of slashing Rodriquez with a machete, causing a large laceration to a wrist.

Witnesses said four shots were fired during the fight at 197 Murray Street in the First Ward around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday. Police indicated the trouble started as the result of a dispute over the use of a vehicle.

Detectives said the handgun Rodriquez is suspected of using was found in the first-floor apartment. A search also turned up drug paraphernalia indicative of the use of heroin and methamphetamine.

The machete English is believed to have used was found hidden near the house.

Rodriquez and English were arraigned shortly after they were charged. They were remanded to the custody of the Broome County Sheriff's Office.
