Crews have been working at the building in the Northgate Plaza on Front Street over the past couple of weeks to get ready to bring back a familiar name.

Terry Drake, a co-owner in the new venture, is looking forward to the new incarnation of Touch of Texas. She was part of the team that operated Touch of Texas from 1998 through 2004 when it was located on Harry L Drive in Johnson City.

Drake told WNBF News the new version will be "very similar" to the previous venture, although she said it won't be "quite as fancy."

Drake said the new Touch of Texas will feature country music. But, she said, it also will offer classic rock nights, comedy shows and line-dancing lessons.

The venue will be available for special events like banquets and weddings.

Drake, who lives in Chenango County, said she's excited about the prospect of bringing back Touch of Texas to the Binghamton area.

A grand opening date is expected to be announced soon. Drake is hoping the place can be in operation within a few weeks.

Traci Taylor contributed reporting.
