Tommy Lee Does Not Want Motley Crue Songs Played at SeaWorld

For all of Tommy Lee‘s notoriously decadent exploits, it’s surprising to learn that he is a strong supporter of animal rights. The Motley Crue drummer is joining with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to stop the “Shamu Rocks” attraction at the SeaWorld theme park in San Diego.

“Shamu Rocks” features white orcas performing tricks as music at volumes of up to 90 decibels blares out of the public address system. According to experts, even 70 decibels is too much for the mammals to handle and can affect their ability to communicate by sonar. In a letter to John T. Reilly, the president of SeaWorld San Diego, Lee addressed his concerns and asked that his own music not be involved.

“I’m writing to ask you not to play any Mötley Crüe songs at any of SeaWorld’s parks during this sad show,” he wrote. “Although we like to torture the human fans who willingly come to our shows, we don’t want to be a part of making innocent animals’ lives hellish…Whales are not head-bangers, so stop cranking the music and take one small step toward improving their welfare.”

Lee has long been a supporter of PETA and has often lent his support to their causes, as has his ex-wife, model/actress Pamela Anderson.
