Today in History: The Firsts

I rarely look at the "this day in history" list I receive every morning. Today, however, it caught my eye and made me chuckle.

Someone always has to be the first, right? The first to fly an airplane, the first to perform surgery, the first to get surgery! Well, today was a busy one for the "firsts."

On this date in 1914, the first air conditioner was invented and used. Now that I would've liked to have been first for.

Then in 1993, the first "take your daughter to work day" happened. I am guessing another first on this day was the Dad being the first to leave his daughter at work and head home!

And now my favorite. Think about the implications here: on this date in 1919 the first successful parachute jump took place. So, no one did it right before this date. How did this guy prepare and how freaked out was he? No thank you, I am glad I wasn't a candidate for that first!
